Professor Oscar Westlund visits Lusófona University for a day of research exchange and collaboration

On 21 October 2025, Lusófona University’s Porto Campus welcomed Professor Oscar Westlund, from Oslo Metropolitan University and Editor-in-Chief of Digital Journalism, for a special day of academic exchange and collaboration. The event was organised by the Centre for Research in Applied Communication, Culture, and New Technologies (CICANT), the MeLCi Lab, the YouNDigitalYouNDigital project, and the AI-Literate project, under the direction of Professor Maria José Brites and the coordination of Dr Lucia Mesquita, member of the Digital Journalism editorial board.

Professor Westlund engaged with Lusófona researchers and guests in a programme that also included a research presentation titled Combating disinformation amid authoritarianism: from fact-checkers to critical publics and academics, followed by a workshop on navigating journal editorial processes using Digital Journalism as a case study. The event also featured talks by Pedro Jerónimo, who presented MediaTrust.Lab + YouNDigital: Unlocking collaboration, reimagining research, and Dr Lucia Mesquita, who introduced the EU-funded Erasmus+ project AI-Literate (2025-1-PL01-KA220-HED-000357941).
