Call for papers explores biographical narratives in media and the arts

A new call for papers is now open for a special issue of the International Journal of Film and Media Arts (IJFMA), Vol. 12 No. 2 (2027), titled Biographical Narratives in Cinematic Practices, Arts and Society. The issue is co-edited by Adérito Fernandes-Marcos and Selma Pereira, a researcher affiliated with CICANT/ISMAT and a member of the MeLCi Lab.

The call invites contributions from researchers, artists, and filmmakers interested in exploring the role of digital biographical narratives across cinema and media arts. According to the announcement, the special issue seeks work engaging with a wide range of formats, including experimental cinema, immersive installations, transmedia storytelling, and AI-driven narrative practices.

The thematic focus highlights how digital biographical storytelling connects personal and collective experiences, challenging traditional linear narratives and opening new possibilities for representation, identity construction, and critical engagement with social and cultural issues.

Contributions are also encouraged on topics such as cultural memory, archival practices, media literacy, and the politics of representation, as well as on the potential of emerging technologies to reshape storytelling practices in contemporary visual culture.
