Conheça nossa equipa: Maria José Brites

Maria José Brites is an Associate Professor at Lusófona University and a member of the Board of the Centre for Research in Applied Communication, Culture, and New Technologies (CICANT). She is the coordinator of the project Jovens, Notícias e Cidadania Digital/Youth, News and Digital Citizenship – YouNDigital (PTDC/COM-OUT/0243/2021) . She coordinated the project “Educational centres with digital and civic competences – DiCi-Educa” (Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian) and the European project SMaRT-EU (LC-01563446).  She was the Portuguese coordinator of the European project Media In Action – MIA (LC-00644630) and of the RadioActive project (531245-LLP-1-2012-1-UK-KA3-KA3). She completed her PhD in Communication Sciences (2013) at NOVA University Lisbon and a post-doc (2014-2017) at the Communication and Society Research Centre (CECS/UMinho), both with grants from the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT). Her research interests include participatory methodologies, youth, journalism and participation, audience studies, and news and civic literacy.
