Enhancing Media Literacy in Secondary Education with “La brújula mediática”

The Spanish Ministry of Education, in collaboration with Águeda Delgado Ponce and M. Amor Pérez Rodríguez, has unveiled “La brújula mediática” (in Spanish) a groundbreaking publication aimed at bolstering media and information literacy among secondary school students. This project provides comprehensive guidelines and strategies to foster critical thinking and competent interaction with media in today’s digitally driven society. It emphasizes the importance of media literacy in teacher training and includes a rich array of activities and materials designed to create engaging learning experiences in the classroom.

“La brújula mediática” is structured to guide educators through the complexities of modern communication, helping students develop essential skills in audiovisual, informational, and digital literacy. The publication outlines practical learning scenarios, such as “The Information Labyrinth” and “Control and Research Center for Disinformation,” which can be directly implemented in educational settings. By equipping students with the ability to analyze and engage with media critically, this initiative aims to cultivate a generation of informed and responsible digital citizens. Download it here.
