FEMglocal presents research on feminist movements at the IV RNEC Congress

On June 26 and 27, the FEMglocal project took part in the IV Congress of the National Network of Cultural Studies (RNEC), hosted by Lusófona University in Lisbon. Centered on the theme “Lusophone and Ibero-American Studies as a Research Field in Science, Culture, and the Arts”, the event served as a dynamic platform for national and international scholars to exchange perspectives on the role of cultural studies in understanding contemporary social transformations.
FEMglocal was represented in two panels on June 27 at 11:00. Carla Cerqueira (PI) and Célia Taborda (Co-PI) each delivered individual presentations in the panel “Colonialism, Post-Colonialism, and Decoloniality”, offering critical reflections on feminist movements through post-colonial and decolonial frameworks. Simultaneously, postdoctoral fellow Ana Sofia Pereira presented a co-authored communication – developed in collaboration with both principal investigators – in the panel “Transcultural and Transnational Identities – Hybrid Identities”.
The presentations shared key outcomes from FEMglocal’s research, including analysis of case studies, such as SlutWalk, #EleNão, #MeToo, and the March 8 feminist strike (8M), the transnational dimensions of these movements, the tensions and intersections between the local and the global, and the diverse strategies used by the project to reach different publics and stakeholders.
FEMglocal – Glocal feminist movements: interactions and contradictions is a research project funded by the Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) through national funds (PTDC/COM-CSS/4049/2021 / DOI 10.54499/PTDC/COM-CSS/4049/2021).
