Margarida Maneta discusses Media Literacy in a Post-Fact-Checking World at MediaCon 2025

On 10 and 11 October 2025, Portugal hosted the second edition of MediaCon – “Encontros com o Jornalismo”, held in Lisbon under the theme “The Journalism We Want.” The event aimed to reflect on the current role of journalism in the age of disinformation.
The two-day programme featured debates, conversations, and masterclasses, offering participants a space to discuss the challenges and ethical responsibilities of journalism today. Topics included cultural criticism, cross-border journalism, and science communication, with sessions designed for both general and specialised audiences. The event also featured a Pecha Kucha session for project presentations and a media fair, open to the public.
On Saturday evening, Margarida Maneta, PhD student at Lusófona University and member of the YouNDigital project, joined the panel “Media Literacy in a Post-Fact-Checking World.” Margarida presented insights from the YouNDigital research and shared her experiences teaching and training both young people and adults in Media and Information Literacy (MIL) across Portugal.
Her participation highlighted the importance of critical media literacy initiatives in promoting informed citizenship and strengthening democratic resilience in the digital age.
