MeLCi Lab Hosts Intergenerational Media Literacy Autumn School

What if different generations came together to rethink how we relate to media? Driven by this challenge, MeLCi Lab is hosting the Intergenerational Media Literacy Autumn School on October 27 and 28 at Universidade Lusófona – Porto University Centre.

Over two mornings, participants from different generations are invited to share experiences, knowledge, and perspectives on media literacy in a space designed for dialogue, participation, and collaborative learning. The program combines art-based methods, a policy component that invites participants to step into the shoes of decision-makers and reflect on challenges in media education policy, and a debate session that pits different viewpoints against one another on the field’s challenges. In this way, the initiative offers a dynamic approach to media literacy, exploring various ways of understanding media and reflecting on its role in society.

This Media Literacy School is an initiative conceived and organised by PhD student Margarida Maneta, co-organised with Maria José Brites, and featuring guest speaker Andrea Vilhena.

The School follows the first edition of MeLCi Lab’s Community of Practice, held in July 2025 at Universidade Lusófona – Porto University Centre. That first gathering brought together researchers working with children, young people, older adults and people with disabilities. This second, live edition builds upon those exchanges by bringing different generations into the same learning space and turning shared research interests into collaborative practice.
