MeLCi Lab Publishes New Research on Youth, Media Literacy, and Digital Citizenship

Our MeLCi Lab team has contributed three impactful studies on Media and Communication, exploring key aspects of youth media engagement. In Beyond Verification, Lucia Mesquita, Margarida Maneta, and Maria José Brites reveal how fact-checking organisations are evolving to include youth media literacy in their mission despite challenges like financial sustainability.

In Young People’s Diversity and Digital Media, Ana Filipa Oliveira, Maria João Leote de Carvalho, and Carla Sousa underscore the importance of inclusivity in digital citizenship education, calling for tailored approaches to bridge cultural and socio-economic divides.

Finally, Young People Learning About Algorithms, authored by Maria José Brites, Teresa Sofia Castro, Mariana S. Müller, and Margarida Maneta, examines youth algorithm awareness and identifies a need for formal educational support to help young people engage critically with digital platforms.

These studies underscore MeLCi Lab’s commitment to advancing inclusive and critical media literacy for youth across diverse digital landscapes.
