MeLCi Lab Member Research on Google’s Influence in Journalism Featured in LatAm Journalism Review

Lucia Mesquita, a member of MeLCi Lab, has had her research on the Google News Initiative (GNI) and its impact on journalism in Latin America, Africa, and the Middle East featured in the LatAm Journalism Review (LJR) by the Knight Center at the University of Texas at Austin. The article includes an interview with co-author Mathias Felipe de Lima Santos and was also highlighted in the LJR newsletter. The study examines how the GNI may create dependency on technology platforms while helping Google sidestep regulatory scrutiny.
