30 Years of PlayStation’s Impact on Youth Culture

Carla Sousa, co-coordinator at MeLCi Lab, and Ivan Barroso, PhD candidate in Media Arts at Lusófona University, have co-authored a new chapter titled 30 Years of Sony PlayStation: A Revolution in Play and Youth Culture.
Their contribution appears in the newly released Children’s Media Yearbook 2025, a publication by the Children’s Media Foundation aimed at parents, educators, and media professionals. The chapter offers an accessible reflection on how the PlayStation transformed the games industry and influenced cognitive, emotional, and identity development among children and young people over the past three decades.
The book is available now via the Children’s Media Foundation website.
