MeLCi Lab Member Selma Pereira Contributes to New Book on Black Cinema and Inclusive Contemporary Culture

MeLCi Lab member Selma Pereira is a contributor to the recently published book Cinema Negro e a Contemporaneidade Inclusiva, edited by Celso Luiz Prudente and Rogério de Almeida and released in 2025 by the Universidade de São Paulo Faculty of Education. The open-access volume brings together international scholars to examine Black cinema as a central space for education, inclusion, and anti-racist cultural practice, addressing themes such as cinema and education, affirmative action, cultural diversity, and democratic representation.

Selma Pereira co-authors the chapter “Na senda do cinema negro nas narrativas biográficas de Macau”, which analyses how Black cinema and biographical narratives intersect in the Macau context, offering a perspective grounded in cultural diversity, identity, and transnational experiences. The book is also closely linked to the 21st International Black Cinema Festival (MICINE), underscoring the strong interplay among academic research, culture, and social transformation.
