YouNDigital Event Discusses Public Policies, Youth and Media Education

The YouNDigital project held its final event, “Public Policies, Youth and Media Education,” on 4 December at Universidade Lusófona – Centro Universitário de Lisboa. The session brought together specialists and institutional representatives to discuss media literacy, young people’s news practices, and policy implications arising from the project’s research.

Organised by YouNDigital, CICANT and MeLCi Lab members and researchers Maria José Brites, Teresa Sofia Castro, and Margarida Maneta, the event featured two round tables. The first, on Media Education, included Alexandre Le Voci Sayad (ZeitGeist), Carla Barros (DGE), Paulo Couraceiro (GILM), and Sérgio Gomes da Silva (#PortugalMediaLab#), moderated by Paulo Resendes (LUSA). Speakers reinforced the importance of promoting media literacy across sectors.

The second round table focused on Public Policies. It brought together Carla Martins (ERC), José Reis (AIMA), Rui Dinis (IPDJ), and Sara Machado (Creative Europe), moderated by Ana Sofia Freitas (RTP Notícias). Participants highlighted the need for stronger collaboration between universities and public bodies and for policies grounded in local needs.

In the afternoon, Alexandre Le Voci Sayad led a workshop on advocacy and social impact, providing practical insights to strengthen media education initiatives.

The event took place within the YouNDigital project – Youth, News and Digital Citizenship (PTDC/COM-OUT/0243/2021), funded by FCT.
