Kickoff of the AI-LITERATE Erasmus+ Project to Advance Responsible and Critical AI Literacy in Higher Education
The kickoff meeting of the Erasmus+ project AI-LITERATE took place in Poznań, Poland, from 3 to 5 December, bringing together the international consortium to establish the project’s governance, align methodological approaches, and define the roadmap for the first implementation phase. AI-LITERATE – Upskilling Higher Education in the Age of Generative AI and Disinformation is a 24-month Erasmus+ project coordinated by Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań that aims to enhance AI literacy in higher education through the development and validation of a blended learning programme focused on the responsible, ethical, and critical use of generative AI, particularly in relation to disinformation.
Lusófona/CICANT and MeLCi Lab researchers Maria José Brites and Teresa Sofia Castro, coordinated by Lucia Mesquita, are responsible for WP2, which will conduct the project’s needs assessment and lead to the development of the blended learning programme. WP2 will conduct a literature review on the intersection of AI Literacy and Disinformation in Higher Education, and a macro-meso-micro analysis of policies, institutional guidelines, and syllabi to assess the current state of AI Literacy integration across five European countries. Also, WP2 will support the conduct of roundtables with specialists and university communities across five countries to produce real-world, context-based recommendations for the sustainable integration of AI Literacy into HEI in Europe.
The project will also be featured at the 6th International Media Research Symposium, taking place in Rome from 4 to 6 June, where the Lusófona University team and members of the AI-Literate project will present the results of Work Package 2, on needs assessment.
