Two MeLCi Lab autumn schools featured in UNESCO’s Global MIL Week 2026 celebrations
Two forthcoming MeLCi Lab events are featured on UNESCO’s “Celebrations around the World” listing for Global Media and Information Literacy Week 2026: the Intergenerational Media Literacy Autumn School and the VI MeLCi Lab Autumn School 2026: Advanced School on AI Research Practice in Media and Communication. This year’s theme is “We All Play a Part – Media and Information Literacy for the People”.
Taking place on the mornings of 27 and 28 October 2026 at Universidade Lusófona – Porto University Centre, the Intergenerational Media Literacy Autumn School will bring together participants from different generations to exchange experiences, knowledge and perspectives on their relationships with media. Organised by CICANT/MeLCi Lab, the initiative creates a space for dialogue, participation and collaborative learning, encouraging participants to rethink media literacy through intergenerational encounters. Participation is by invitation.

The VI MeLCi Lab Autumn School, scheduled for 10–13 November 2026 online, will focus on AI research practice in media and communication. The programme addresses the growing use of AI technologies, including large language models, across the research process, from literature searches and data annotation to audience segmentation and discourse analysis. It will explore methodological and ethical questions surrounding these practices, including transparency, bias and the implications of AI-generated knowledge.

Together, the two initiatives reflect MeLCi Lab’s commitment to connecting media literacy, critical inquiry, and research practice, creating opportunities for learning across generations, and examining the technologies shaping media and communication.
Both events appear under Portugal on UNESCO’s Global MIL Week 2026 “Celebrations around the World” page.
